GUESS MY WORD

Using the word wall as a reference, give your child clues and let them “guess your word”. I like to give 1 clue, then let them guess.

Give another clue, then let them guess. For example, you might say:

• My word had 5 letters.

• My word has 2 vowels.

• My word has a digraph.

• One of the vowels looks like sneaky “e”, but doesn’t sound like it.

• My word is there!

Write it!  Erase it!  Write it!  Using an easel or dry erase board, choose a sight word from the word wall and have your child write it on the board (or window) After they write it, have him read it, then erase it quickly.

Ask, “Do you remember how to write my word?” Have him write it again, without using the word wall this time! Repeat this

with a new word.

Finish My Sentence

Using the word ring cards as a reference, say a sentence leaving a blank

in it. Have your child guess the word in the blank that makes the sentence complete. Remember to leave out the sight word! You want them to think about how they can use that word in everyday conversation.

For example, you might say:

• Have you been to _____ house? (the, a, my)

Rainbow Writing!

Write in the word in one color, then trace all the letters in second color then a third...

Make a Sentence!

Use your words in a sentence.  You can say each word in their own sentence, and then try and use more than one sight word in a sentence!
